Our Home Page
Welcome to the home page of Folk Dance Association. Since
1970, we've helped both newcomers and experienced dancers find places to do folk dance,
contra dance, square dance, Balkan dance, ballroom dance, cajun dance, clog dance, English
country dance, international dance, Israeli dance, Scottish country dance, swing dance,
vintage dance, zydeco dance and all other types of traditional dance and ethnic dance as a
rewarding hobby, as an excellent way to keep fit, as a great way to make new friends
and as a recreation for the entire family. We've also helped folk dancers find places to
dance during trips and advertise folk dance events and folk dance services. We publish
this on-line directory of folk dance groups, folk dance events and folk dance activities
in the US and Canada.
The four building blocks of Folk Dance Association are: The Calendar, The
Directory, The Library and The Bureau. The Calendar consists of 47 web pages listing over a
thousand camps, cruises, festivals, teachers, tours, vendors, weekends and workshops. The Directory consists of 72 web pages of class and
session listings featuring all types of folk dance throughout the United States and
Canada. The Library consists of 32 web pages
containing 200 articles, essays and web sites to help increase your knowledge of folk
dance. The Bureau
consists of 18 web pages explaining how to list information about your classes, sessions,

Folk Dance
Association provides services and information for dancers, teachers, leaders
and groups throughout the United States, Canada and the rest of the world.
From 1970 to 1979, we published Folk Dance Directory.
It was edited by Raymond La Barbera and was the first widely circulated, nationwide
directory of folk dance classes, sessions, products, services and activities. From 1972 to
1973, we published Folk Dance Magazine.
It was edited by Raymond La Barbera and Steve Zalph (originally called New York
Folk Dance News) and was a magazine providing folk dance
articles, interviews and a calendar of national events. From 1975 to 1979, we published Mixed
Pickles. It was edited by Raymond La Barbera and was the first
widely circulated tabloid newspaper devoted to folk dance throughout the United States and
Canada.
